Out of the Depths

Rescue, Redemption, and Relentless Grace

Theme

Saved by grace—there’s no greater blessing. But that doesn’t mean it’s easy. In fact, there are times and seasons when it’s downright hard, when walking in God’s ways and obeying his Word can prove costly. Is it worth it? The Israelite prophet Jonah decided the cost was too high, so he ran away from the Lord. Well, he tried to run. But the Lord didn’t let him go. He had big plans for Jonah—plans to bless not only his rebellious prophet but many lost souls—and to reveal himself as the all-powerful, all-knowing, gracious God. From Jonah we learn how much God loves his people, saves them from messes of their own making, and keeps them till the end.

Key Passage

And the Lord appointed a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
